The professional service team gives a true meaning to child care work

2 years ago, we held the “Joining Hands For Children’s Better Future” Kick-off Ceremony to showcase the new facilities of Children’s Residential Home (CRH) after renovation. We also revealed our service needs, challenges and the direction of future development of service to our guests. “What is the most important element for providing services like CRH?” a guest asked me. My answer was immediate and doubtless – to establish a service team that is compassionate and capable.

CRH is a residential crèche for children which provides 24-hour residential care service. It is committed to providing appropriate care and nurture to young children in order to facilitate their healthy development. Most of the children living in CRH are referred by the Social Welfare Department since they cannot be appropriately taken care of by their families. More than 40% of them are identified with developmental delays or developmental disabilities. Thus, we need our staff to be compassionate so that the young children can feel cared and loved; sometimes like a mother who can be relied on and trusted by the young children; at the same time equipped with professional knowledge and techniques to foster their growth and development.

Fortunately, most of the staff of CRH are attracted by the meaning of work here. They are devoted to serving this group of young children who need additional care ever since they applied for the job, aspired to bring more happiness and positive life experiences to them. In our Feature Story this time, we interview Fi Fi who has joined the big family of Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children since 1979, serving the children of CRH, the parents and the development of the team all these years. She will share her thoughts as a child educator over the past 40 years with us and tell us how meaningful the work of a Child Care Worker at CRH is.
