The HKSPC Nurturing Children Together for Tomorrow” Conference officially kicks off today

(8 May 2026, Hong Kong) – The “Nurturing Children Together for Tomorrow” Conference, organised by the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children, commenced today under the theme “Empowering the Future: Transforming Early Childhood Educare”. The conference gathered 15 esteemed scholars, educators and industry leaders to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping childcare and education practices. The event attracted over 400 participants, including childcare practitioners, social workers, teachers and parents.

The Opening Session featured welcome remarks by Mr Vincent Lee, Chairman of the HKSPC Executive Committee, followed by opening remarks by Mr Chris Sun, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR. In his address, Chairman Lee noted that this year marks the organisation’s 100th anniversary—a journey that began with providing basic care to babies and young children and has grown into a full continuum of services, including child care, residential homes, rehabilitation and family support. He reaffirmed that child safeguarding has remained the organisation’s core value throughout the century.

Lee said, “The conference theme aligns closely with the Hong Kong Government’s latest AI policy direction, which positions AI as a core future industry and promotes ‘AI+’ development across different sectors. At the same time, society should not remain a passive consumer of technology but take an active role in shaping its future. Caregivers play a crucial part in guiding children to use technology to broaden their horizons. We also encouraged the thoughtful use of technology in parenting to foster closer and healthier parent–child relationships.”

Dedicated to advancing dialogue on technological innovation and its implications for early childhood development, the conference featured 9 keynote speeches. These discussions examined strategies to equip children with the skills and resilience needed to thrive in a future shaped by AI and other emerging and unknown challenges. The Conference also provided valuable networking opportunities, facilitating professional exchange and meaningful cross-sector dialogue among participants.
