The HKSPC Child Safeguarding Academy hosted the“Safeguarding Children Every Day from Medical, Political, Educational, and Social Perspectives” – Inter-professional Seminar 2026 on July 9, which attracted over 130 social workers, healthcare professionals, teachers, therapists, and parents and tertiary students to participate.

We were honoured to welcome five speakers from different professional fields as the speakers of the seminar, including:

  • Dr. KWAN Mike Yat Wah, President of Asian Society for Pediatric Infectious Disease (ASPID)
  • Ms. KWOK Sze Wai, Senior Inspector of Hong Kong Police Force
  • Dr. Maple LAU Siu Kwan, Director of Against Child Abuse (ACA)
  • Ms. YIP Yuk Fong, Principal of Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children Hong Kong Bank Foundation Nursery School
  • Prof. YIP Kam Shing, Adjunct Professor at Felizberta Lo Padilla Tong School of Social Sciences of Saint Francis University

From the perspectives from physical health, law enforcement, preventive services, early childhood education and mental health, the speakers shared valuable insights and practical experiences in safeguarding children. Leveraging their extensive professional expertise and evidence-based findings, they provided in-depth presentations of the challenges and needs in children’s growth, as well as how parents, educators and the community can help create safe and nurturing environments for children at family, school and within the community.

The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session. Participants actively raised questions and sought the speakers’ professional advice. These fruitful discussions stimulated deeper reflections to the issue raised. We are delighted to see the seminar succeed, which not only fostered cross-disciplinary exchanges but also strengthened awareness and deepened understanding of child-related issues across different sectors.

Looking ahead, we will continue to work closely with stakeholders from different sectors to promote further inspiration on child welfare, creating happy childhoods for children with the collective effort from diverse disciplines.
